Ingrid is a swinger who doesn't want to get serious about any man until she meets her new neighbor, a playwright preparing a revolutionary drama where all the actors use gestures to express themselves. But in spying on him, Ingrid mistakenly comes to the conclusion that he is deaf and dumb. To meet him, she pretends to be deaf and dumb and learns sign language. Realizing she is spying on him and learning of her reputation, Cornel also pretends to be deaf and dumb in anticipation of teaching her a lesson.
