Anne goes through various boyfriends - a painter, a beat singer, a man who claims to have the formula to allow women to be slim. Each time, Anne inadvertently does something to hinder their careers and they break up with her. After each breakup, she confides in her writer neighbor who lives in the flat below hers. He is writing a novel titled "The Terrible Girl" and when it is released, she discovers that the book is based on her.
