Carol takes a bet from the girls in the typing section that she will have a famous writer on her arm as she leaves a gala concert the following evening. Carol bribes the girl in the cloakroom to swap the tickets on Mark's coat so she will have an excuse to see him. Carol does indeed come out of the theatre on Mark's arm, but when Mark brings Carol and the other girls back to his place for a drink, they discover a man dead on the floor.
