Sam the Sheriff faces a surprising challenge in his re-election bid when rival candidate Happy Harry tricks him into drinking a cactus punch that causes him to act strangely and destroy his hotel room while asleep. As Sam flees town in embarrassment, Happy Harry schemes to win the election by making it seem Sam abandoned his post—only for Sam to return with the real culprit, wanted outlaw Kit Barson, dramatically proving his worth just in time.

Hoghead Harry agrees to mind Mister Yancey’s general store while Yancey rides out to Jess Benton’s ranch. Later, Harry returns to find Yancey and is startled to learn that two men came in and ordered him to put his hands up while they took Yancey’s safe.

Hotshot Horace is startled when a mouse jumps out of his stove, prompting his friends to tease him about being spooked. He tries to play it cool, claiming he didn’t shoot it because it was “out of my range,” but his flustered reaction only makes the joke worse.
