After a struggle, Rocky manages to cage Black Jack like a mad wolf to contain him. The issue includes an educational feature on "The Mail Gets Through," detailing the history of the Pony Express and early mail delivery services.

Contains 5 stories
The Haunted Shaft
5 pp · Western-Frontier

When a young rider tumbles into an abandoned mine shaft while rescuing a stranded colt, Black Jack refuses to abandon him—standing guard at the pit's edge for days, even as two outlaws fleeing a posse discover gold nearby and scheme to escape. Black Jack's loyalty forces the desperate criminals to choose between abandoning their find and their freedom, or facing the consequences of the horse's unwavering determination to see justice done.

Poison Spring
5 pp · Western-Frontier

When Shag Morton hatches a scheme to poison the wild horses at Oak Springs—hoping to frame Rocky Lane's trusted horse Black Jack—he doesn't count on his victim being smart enough to sense danger. Black Jack not only refuses the tainted water but turns the tables on Morton, trapping the would-be saboteur until the marshal arrives to make the arrest. It's a satisfying tale of frontier justice served by hoofed justice, with Rocky Lane's partnership with his loyal stallion proving stronger than any criminal scheme.

Outlaw
5 pp · Western-Frontier

When a man named Shark Warren captures Black Jack and a limping mare, he discovers a cruel way to control the magnificent stallion—by threatening the mare's safety. Warren uses this leverage to stage a scam at a Wild West show, betting that no one can ride the "outlaw" horse, until Rocky Lane arrives and learns the truth about the swindle. Black Jack's loyalty to his true master puts an end to Warren's scheme once and for all.

Meat For The Table
5 pp · Western-Frontier

When a brutal winter threatens a frontier settlement with starvation, a trapper named Ned Beasely arrives at their door and insists on hunting through the blizzard despite the settlement leader's objections—a dangerous gamble that tests whether survival demands caution or frontier grit. Battling both the harsh wilderness and a fever that won't quit, Ned faces the frozen landscape alone while the community waits and fears the worst. His return brings not just relief, but a hard lesson about what it takes to endure on the edge of civilization.

Killer Stallion
5 pp · Western-Frontier

When a wild stallion starts terrorizing the valley—kicking down corrals, destroying property, and attacking livestock—suspicion immediately falls on Black Jack, a horse with a dark reputation. But as the sheriff investigates and sets a trap, Black Jack's true nature begins to reveal itself in ways that challenge everything the townsfolk believed about him. This tale from Rocky Lane's Black Jack proves that even the most feared outlaw can be something entirely different when you look deeper.
