“The Battle for Robin Hood's Castle!”

In "The Battle for Robin Hood's Castle!" from Robin Hood Tales #11 (1957), a sudden blow from the Sheriff leaves Robin Hood blind, forcing him to lead his men through the forest by memory and instinct. Written by Bob Haney and brought to life with dynamic art by Ross Andru and Mike Esposito, the story follows Robin as he navigates perilous terrain, battles unseen foes by sound alone, and rallies his band in a desperate stand at Black Castle Crag. The cover, also by Ross Andru and Mike Esposito, captures the tension of the moment with striking detail.

Ambushed by the Sheriff, Robin Hood is struck on the head - and goes blind! He cannot tell his men lest they lost heart, so leads by memory and feel along forest trails. Sending the men to Black Castle Crag, blind Robin meets Marian, reaches a bridge and battles a knight by sound. He even breaks an ambusher's bow with an arrow! The Merry Men are surrounded. Robin challenges the Sheriff to a duel. Struck on the head, he regains his sight to defeat his foes. "How beautiful is Sherwood," says Marian. "As if seeing it for the first time," replies Robin.
