Robin Hood encounters Lady Ann Loring on the road, a noblewoman whose father's taxes are being collected by the Sheriff's men for King Richard during the Crusades. After Robin's band attacks the tax collectors with arrows, Lady Ann escapes on her swift horse, but Robin pursues and captures her. Upon learning her identity and plight, Robin realizes she is not truly his enemy and allows her to go free. The story includes a historical narrative explaining the beacon system used to warn of Viking invasions along the English coast, followed by a battle scene where Robin Hood's forces clash with King Arthur's Round Table knights to defend against oppression.
