Ristampe Storiche #1
Comicon Edizioni kicks off its Ristampe Storiche series in 2003 with this handsome reprint edition subtitled "The First American Comic Book," presenting the misadventures of the hapless Obadiah Oldbuck. The cover by Rodolphe Töpffer vividly captures the hapless hero mid-tumble, arms flailing, while a cat leaps nearby and a rooftop scene unfolds behind him — perfectly conveying the slapstick spirit of the original. With writing by Alfredo Castelli and art by Lucio Filippucci accompanying Töpffer's historic imagery, this is a wonderful introduction to one of the founding works of the comic book form.
