Rise of Apocalypse #3

Issue three of this 1996 Marvel miniseries brings a striking sense of dark mythology to the fore, with cover art by Adam Pollina (pencils) and Scott Koblish (inks) presenting a massively imposing, grey-skinned Apocalypse dominating the frame — eyes glowing white, red wrappings clutched in one enormous fist, golden armor adorning his wrist — while an ornate golden Egyptian figure stands sentinel to his left against a cracked, ancient backdrop. The subtitle "Dark Annunciation" underscores the ominous, quasi-divine weight the image carries, and the Egyptian aesthetic surrounding him feels genuinely considered rather than just decorative. Writers Terry Kavanagh and James Felder, alongside artist Adam Pollina, are clearly building toward something with real mythological ambition in "The Face of the Gods.
