A young outlaw named Billy is persuaded by a good man to abandon his criminal ways, but when a corrupt judge and Sheriff Barton begin exploiting and robbing local ranchers, Billy is drawn back into a life of crime to help protect his community. Teaming up with a gang, Billy poses as a cattle rustler to earn the criminals' trust, planning to lead them into a trap and expose their corruption. When the sheriff discovers Billy's deception, a violent shootout ensues, with Billy narrowly escaping on horseback with only one bullet remaining in his gun.
