“Fortet i Juda”

In "Fortet i Juda," set in May 1781, the slave ship Marie-Caroline, under Captain Boisboeuf, sails smoothly toward the "Slavkusten" when it makes a stop at the trading post of Juda in the Kingdom of Dahomey. François Bourgeon, writing with Lars Adelskogh and handling every aspect of the art, inks, colors, and letters, brings to life the tense atmosphere aboard the vessel as Isa, Hoel, Mary, John, and their daughter Enora face the grim reality of their journey. The cover, also by Bourgeon, captures the moment with stark, evocative detail.
