Bert goes to London and asks Dinah to go too, but she stays to look after her aunt. After the death of her aunt, Dinah goes to London and looks up Bert. but he seems to spend a lot of time with Grace. On Christmas, Bert feels obligated to go on a band picnic with Grace and Dinah's relatives take their annual trip to Paris. Left alone, Dinah enters a cafe and learns of a jewelry robbery. A man who matches the description of the thief in the newspaper asks her to pretend to be engaged to her for the night so he can catch the first plane to America the next day.
