Issue two of Herman Roozen and Pieter Hogenbirk's charming Dutch series finds the great painter hard at work at his easel, palette in hand, as two somewhat bemused nude models pose on a bed behind him — all while a chaotic crowd of armored soldiers swarms through an archway in the background. The subtitle "Zelfportret" (Self-Portrait) adds a wonderfully playful layer to this busy, warmly comic scene. It's a delightful blend of art-world humor and historical atmosphere that makes this 2024 Personalia release a genuinely fun addition to the series.
