The second installment of Herman Roozen and Pieter Hogenbirk's Dutch comics series brings us "Zelfportret" — and the cover says it all: a cartoonishly rendered Rembrandt stands at his easel, painting a hilariously stylized self-portrait while, in the warm sepia background, a crowd of period soldiers and figures bustles through an archway behind him. The contrast between the painter's absorbed concentration and the chaotic scene unfolding at his back gives this 2024 release an immediately charming comic energy. If you enjoy humor-tinged takes on historical figures, this Personalia publication looks like a delightful continuation of the series.
