Donny Cates and Lisandro Estherren's Southern Gothic vampire series delivers an unsettling image in this 2017 Skybound/Image issue: a wheelchair engulfed in roaring flames against a blood-red sky, while the carcasses of what appear to be dead cattle lie scattered across a darkened field. Dee Cunniffe's color work makes the firelight feel genuinely threatening, casting the whole scene in an ominous amber glow that suggests things have gone very wrong for someone. If you're looking for a vampire story with a rural, slow-burn dread rather than glittering fangs, Redneck is staking out its own grim territory.
