Dave Bullock's painterly cover for this 2018 Dynamite issue captures Red Sonja mid-battle, her wild crimson hair blazing as she strains against a sword being forced down toward her — fierce defiance written across her face and every muscle in her body. The blue chainmail bikini and leather bracers are rendered with a loose, expressive brushwork that gives the whole image a kinetic, almost cinematic energy. With Amy Chu and Erik Burnham co-writing and Carlos Gomez on interior art, issue #22 arrives with a creative team that clearly relishes putting Sonja through her most demanding moments.
