The main story, "Bart Fights the Crawley Boys" by Uncle Ray, follows young Bart as he defends Pop the Hermit's shack from the notorious Crawley Boys gang, who have been terrorizing the area and are rumored to have stolen a gold cache. When the desperados attack Pop's home seeking information about the hidden gold, Bart manages to fight them off and save Pop, eventually driving them away on horseback. A secondary story features Red Rabbit and companions dealing with pirates of Barbados during a voyage at sea, with the action culminating in a confrontation aboard their ship. The issue also contains a humorous adventure sequence where Red Rabbit and a companion attempt gold prospecting, forgetting essential supplies like a mule and encountering mishaps along the way.
