Real Screen Comics #11

This 1947 DC anthology brings together some of the era's most charming funny-animal characters, with the cover spotlighting the Fox sitting in a tub of ice water beneath a fan and a dripping wet blanket, cheerfully declaring he's "testing those cold pills" — a gag that perfectly captures the sly, absurdist humor the series was known for. Doc Crow looks on with bemused skepticism, while Tito and his Burrito peek in from the top of the cover, rounding out the roster of features inside. At ten cents, this April/May issue is a delightful snapshot of postwar all-ages comics at their most playfully inventive.
