Pet lives with a wealthy family and everyone expects her to marry John, a wealthy ship-owner's son. But Pet finds him dull and un-romantic. When she meets Dean, she falls for him even though he is just a garage hand. Her parents don't approve of Dean and Pet isn't of legal age to wed without their consent, so Dean asks her to run away with him to Scotland where they can be married in three weeks. Her parents track her down, but an American newspaper offers to fly them to America in exchange for the story. In America, Pet finally realizes that Dean only wants her for her money.
