The second volume of Soleil's Règlement de contes arrives in 2003 with "Le Cœur de la forêt," and the cover by Damien Vanders sets a striking, unsettling mood — a young woman in a pale dress holds a pistol at her side while an enormous, brooding wolf looms behind her against a fiery orange sky, a gallows visible in the distance. It's a fairy-tale world with real teeth, blending the atmosphere of dark folklore with a western edge that feels genuinely fresh. Writer Damien Marie and artist Vanders clearly have a bold vision for what happens when classic stories meet something far more dangerous.
