Mitton's historical adventure series reaches its sixth volume with "La noche triste," published by Glénat in 2005. The cover, painted by Mitton himself, sets a moody nocturnal scene: two armored Spanish conquistadors on horseback are silhouetted against a full moon, their plumed helmets and cloaks suggesting both authority and unease in an unfamiliar land. It's a beautifully atmospheric image that captures the tension at the heart of the Spanish conquest of Mexico.
