In 411 A.D., a dying magician sends his daughter, Promethea, into the desert as his city burns around him—only for her to be taken in by Thoth-Hermes and raised in the Immateria, the realm of dreams and imagination. Decades later, in present-day New York, university student Sophie Bangs becomes obsessed with the mythic figure of Promethea, glimpsed across poems, pulp novels, and comic books, until a visit to the widow of the last comic’s writer sets her on a path she never saw coming.

In "Das Urteil des Salomon," Promethea rushes to the aid of the injured Barbara, only to find herself targeted by Benny Solomon, who hires two demons from the Howling to eliminate her. As the attack unfolds, the chaos pulls Stacia into the Immateria, leaving the fate of all involved hanging in the balance.

In "Eine Elfen-Romanze," Sophie delves into the mysterious past of Promethea, uncovering the tale of 19th-century poet Charlton Sennet and his servant Anna, whose life became entwined with the mythos of the Promethea. As her research deepens, she finds herself face-to-face with Jack Faust, an old adversary of the previous Prometheas, whose sudden appearance unsettles the quiet of her investigation.

In "null," Sophie returns to the hospital after hearing that Barbara's condition has worsened, only to be drawn into the Immateria through a psychic link. There, she encounters the Margaret Chase incarnation of Promethea, who begins guiding her through an unknown path of awakening.

In "The 5 Swell Guys in Gefecht auf der 5th Avenue! / A Warrior Princess of Hy Brasil," Sophie's journey through the Immateria brings her into contact with the Grace Brannagh incarnation of Promethea, who guides her in mastering the way of the Sword. Meanwhile, back in the material world, Benny Solomon arrives in New York, poised to unleash the full force of the Goetia, as Sophie lies unconscious in a hospital alongside the wounded Marv and Barbara Shelley.
