About this Issue

Predator vs. Spider-Man #1 is the third chapter in Benjamin Percy's ongoing 20th Century Studios / Marvel crossover initiative, marking the first time the Yautja have hunted Spider-Man in comics and introducing Skinner — a clanless, codeless Predator designed as a deliberate inversion of the franchise's traditionally honor-bound hunters. The issue is notable for threading the Predator's extraterrestrial violence through the distinctly street-level, character-rich world of Peter Parker, weaving in J. Jonah Jameson, Mary Jane Watson, and Kraven the Hunter in ways that exploit the unique thematic friction between Spider-Man's moral code and a creature defined entirely by appetite. Arriving at a moment when Marvel was actively building a shared 20th Century Studios crossover universe across multiple hero titles, the debut issue also demonstrated that the Predator concept could sustain a horror-inflected murder-mystery framing — not just action spectacle — giving the crossover line a narrative sophistication that distinguished it from its predecessors.

History

Percy had already established the Predator's foothold in the Marvel Universe through Predator vs. Wolverine (September–December 2023), the first-ever official crossover between the Yautja franchise and Marvel Comics following Disney/Marvel's acquisition of the 20th Century Studios licenses, and through Predator vs. Black Panther (August–November 2024). Marvel announced Predator vs. Spider-Man at the conclusion of the Black Panther series, with Percy returning as writer alongside artist Marcelo Ferreira — a pairing chosen in part because Ferreira had prior experience rendering Spider-Man on titles including Amazing Spider-Man and Strange. Percy and Ferreira collaborated on designing Skinner as a wholly original Yautja, distinct from any previously seen in the franchise, with Percy describing the character publicly as having 'no code or clan' and being conceived as a nightmarish counterpoint to Peter Parker's big-hearted heroism. The four-issue series was edited by Sarah Brunstad, Lindsey Cohick, and Martin Biro under editor-in-chief C.B. Cebulski, with the first issue going on sale April 23, 2025.

Trivia · 8 facts

  • First appearance of Skinner, a new Yautja (Predator) character defined by the absence of the Yautja honor code and clan affiliation — a deliberately original creation by Percy and Ferreira.
  • Written by Benjamin Percy with art by Marcelo Ferreira, inks by Jay Leisten, colors by Frank D'Armata, and letters by VC's Clayton Cowles; main cover by Paulo Siqueira.
  • On sale April 23, 2025 (cover date: June 2025); the third Predator vs. Marvel crossover miniseries written by Percy, following Predator vs. Wolverine (2023) and Predator vs. Black Panther (2024).
  • Characters appearing in issue #1 include Spider-Man (Peter Parker), J. Jonah Jameson (depicted here as Peter's boss at his website rather than as an antagonist), Mary Jane Watson, Kraven the Hunter (Sergei Kravinoff), and new supporting character Detective LaPearl.
  • The issue closes with Kraven the Hunter arriving in New York City on the trail of Skinner, establishing a three-way dynamic between Spider-Man, Kraven, and the rogue Predator that drives the series.
  • Issue #1 shipped with at least six cover variants, including designs by Ryan Brown, Humberto Ramos, Pepe Larraz, a Greg Land foil variant, and a Marcelo Ferreira design variant; the issue received at least a third printing.
  • Rated Parental Advisory (T+) by Marvel; reviewers noted that the issue's gore — including visceral Predator kills — was among the most extreme seen in a standard-rated Marvel comic at the time of publication.
  • The complete four-issue run (April–July 2025) was collected in a trade paperback released September 30, 2025, and was followed in Marvel's 20th Century Studios crossover line by Predator Kills the Marvel Universe.
