Pre-Code Classics: Jet Powers / Space Ace #[nn]
☆ Be the first to review + Add to your collection — Join freeThis hardcover collects the complete run of two short-lived 1950s Atlas Comics science fiction series, Jet Powers and Space Ace, presented in their original pre-Code form. Featuring atomic-age space adventures and alien encounters, these stories showcase the unregulated, often more daring storytelling that defined comics before the Comics Code Authority was established. The volume includes all published issues of both titles, offering a snapshot of early Cold War-era sci-fi comics from a major Golden Age publisher.
"Jet Powers Captain of Science!" delivers a classic sci-fi adventure from the golden age of comics, spotlighting Space Ace in a tale where a bounty hunt turns into a deadly game of wits. When Space Ace rescues Dalla, a woman claiming her ship was attacked and her scientist companion abducted, he follows her trail to Titan—only to find himself ensnared in a trap set by Flor, the vengeful pirate queen. The story, illustrated with bold, dynamic art by Al Williamson, Wally Wood, and Frank Frazetta, is presented in a stunning 2017 reprint from PS Artbooks, with a striking cover by Bob Powell.
In "The Desert Devils!", Space Ace races across the red dunes of Mars to stop a string of mysterious cargo plane attacks, uncovering a deadly system of dormant robots triggered by passing ships. When he finds the long-dead Keeper of the Sands and an eerie, still-active control panel, he realizes the desert’s ancient guardians are still responding to a signal no one’s meant to send.
When Walters builds a time machine and sends friends into the far future, they’re captured by the alien Kroog, who seize control of the device. Now, Jet Powers must stop them from rewriting history before time itself falls into their hands.
In "The Metal Monsters!", a rogue machine awakened by the Hiroshima blast teams up with the enigmatic Mr. Sinn to launch a surprise assault on Jet Powers' Mesa laboratory. With no clear motive and a mind of its own, the mechanical force sets the stage for a clash of wills and steel.
In "The Devil's Machine!", Professor Mikla’s dangerous invention goes awry when her multipliciter unleashes swarms of cloned circus animals, turning Pennsylvania into a chaos of roaring lions and stampeding elephants. With the city in peril, Jet Powers must confront the monstrous spectacle before the machines spiral beyond control.
In "Death in Deep Space!", Space Ace ventures into the void seeking a missing scientist, only to pull a mysterious woman, Dalla, from the wreckage of a derelict ship. As she recounts a tale of alien invasion and capture, he follows her trail to Titan—unaware that her story is a carefully woven trap set by Flor, the vengeful pirate leader with a grudge from a past encounter.
