About this Issue

Power Rangers: Across the Morphin Grid #1 marks a genuinely unprecedented creative milestone in the franchise's comic-book history: it is the first Power Rangers anthology in which the original television actors themselves served as writers, penning stories about the very characters they portrayed on screen. That actor-as-author structure gives the issue a rare sense of internal authenticity, bridging the live-action history of the show directly into BOOM! Studios' long-running comic continuity. The issue also delivers at least one meaningful addition to franchise canon — the debut of Raina DeSantos, Rocky's younger sister and a temporary female Red Ranger — a character whose first appearance expands lore that the television series never explored. Spanning eras from Mighty Morphin through Zeo and HyperForce, the anthology demonstrated that BOOM!'s Power Rangers line could function simultaneously as fan celebration and genuine storytelling expansion.

History

The project was announced as part of BOOM! Studios' road-to-San-Diego-Comic-Con 2024 programming, published in collaboration with Hasbro, and edited by Dafna Pleban, the long-serving senior editor who has overseen much of the publisher's Power Rangers output. Writers David Yost (original Blue Ranger) and Walter Jones (original Black Ranger) joined forces with Steve Cardenas (second Red Ranger), Nakia Burrise (Yellow Zeo Ranger), and Meghan Camarena (HyperForce Pink Ranger), among others, to write stories about their respective characters — an arrangement that, by the actors' own accounts in promotional materials, felt like both a homecoming and a new creative challenge. The oversized one-shot shipped on October 30, 2024, with a 48-page page count and a cover by artist Ejikure.

Trivia · 8 facts

  • Published October 30, 2024 by BOOM! Studios in collaboration with Hasbro as an oversized, 48-page one-shot anthology.
  • First Power Rangers comic anthology written primarily by cast members of the television series: David Yost (Billy/Blue Ranger), Walter Jones (Zack/Black Ranger), Steve Cardenas (Rocky/Red Ranger), Nakia Burrise (Tanya/Yellow Zeo Ranger), and Meghan Camarena (Chloe/HyperForce Pink Ranger), with additional script contributions from Mat Groom and JD Sutphin.
  • First comic appearance of Raina DeSantos — Rocky DeSantos's younger sister — who temporarily wields Rocky's Power Morpher and morphs into a female Red Mighty Morphin Power Ranger in the story 'In the Red,' written by Steve Cardenas and Mat Groom with art by Anand Ramcheron.
  • The anthology spans three distinct Power Rangers eras: Mighty Morphin (Season 1 and Season 2), Zeo, and HyperForce, covering characters Billy Cranston, Zack Taylor, Rocky DeSantos, Tanya Sloan, and Chloe Ashford.
  • Interior art by five separate artists: Patrick Mulholland, Anand Ramcheron, Dominike 'Domo' Stanton, Tango, and Paulina Ganucheau, with letters by Ed Dukeshire.
  • Main cover by Ejikure; variant covers by Riley Rossmo and Goñi Montes (including a foil variant), plus a BOOM! Studios Direct Reserve exclusive foil variant and retailer incentive covers at 1:10 and 1:15 ratios.
  • The story 'Tanya's Heavy-Metal Rescue' is set after the events of the Netflix special Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Once & Always (2023), connecting comic continuity directly to that live-action production.
  • The issue was teased at San Diego Comic-Con 2024 before receiving a formal first-look press release on September 27, 2024, with a Final Order Cutoff date of September 30, 2024.
