Grace moves to a small town to become its librarian, but rejects offers of dates from the male residents and is considered a “lady iceberg,” until Earl asks for assistance in his research. They fall in love, but Grace lies and says he means nothing to her. She later explains to Earl that she is engaged to David, who was blinded in the war and has been “in a veteran’s hospital so long!” David arrives for a visit and tells Grace he’s in love with a nurse from the hospital, so he frees Grace to marry Earl.
