In this 1946 issue of Popular Comics, young Billy takes to the skies with a promise to his father to fly only for business—until a sudden shadow from above sends a herd of wild mustangs into chaos. When a rider is thrown into the stampede, Billy dives in to help, accidentally clearing the way for Jeff and his crew. The unexpected rescue leads to an unlikely partnership: Jeff, seeing the plane as a tool for profit, asks Billy to teach him to fly. Written by Gaylord Du Bois and illustrated by Irving Tripp, with inks also by Tripp, this story blends frontier grit with the wonder of early aviation in a moment that turns a boy’s promise into a shared adventure.
