About this Collection

This 1989 hardcover collection celebrates Popeye's 60th anniversary by reprinting classic newspaper comic strips from the character's early years, featuring the work of creator E.C. Segar. It includes a selection of full-color and black-and-white dailies and Sundays, showcasing the sailor's adventures with Olive Oyl, Bluto, and Wimpy. The volume serves as a retrospective of the strip's golden age, published by the UK-based Hawk Books.

"Castor & Blizzard" marks a standout chapter in the enduring adventures of Popeye, drawn with signature flair by E. C. Segar. The story sees Popeye and the crew sailing to Plunder Island, the Sea Hag’s hidden fortress and vault of stolen treasure. Along the way, the Sea Hag tries to have Alice the Goon eliminate Popeye, but her plans take an unexpected turn when Wimpy feigns romantic interest in her. The tale unfolds with Segar’s classic wit and visual storytelling, all rendered in his own hand across writing, art, inking, and lettering.
