Born into the celebrated Barrymore theatrical dynasty—her parents Georgie Drew and Maurice Barrymore were both accomplished performers—Ethel Barrymore initially dreamed of becoming a musician rather than following her family to the stage. When her mother's illness changes everything, Ethel reluctantly accepts a small role in a play, only to find herself stepping into a leading part during an emergency performance in London that catches the eye of the legendary Sir Henry Irving himself. Her journey from reluctant trouper to celebrated American star unfolds through early triumphs and the tradition of opening-night apples that would come to define her remarkable career.

Saved from the Nazis
3 pp · Non-Fiction, Biography

Alenka and Jirik Samal were torn from their Czechoslovak home in 1942 when the Nazis took them away, beginning three harrowing years of separation from their mother—who was imprisoned in a concentration camp—and a journey through multiple camps before being placed with a German family. With help from American officers after the war's end, their uncle and family finally located the children and brought them back to their mother, though the ordeal had left deep marks: Alenka now spoke only German, and Jirik could barely recall his native Czech. This is the true account of loss, survival, and an emotional reunion that restored a family thought forever scattered by war.

Your Cat Can Learn Too!
4 pp · Animal

A young cat owner introduces a friend to the surprising facts about feline training—from the basics of housebreaking and furniture-scratching prevention to teaching tricks like fetch and roll-over. Through practical demonstrations with Fuzzy, the story shows that cats are far more trainable than most people realize, if you have the patience and the right technique.
