The cover of this Egmont Polska volume from 2003 immediately draws the eye with a striking, vertically disorienting composition — a figure reaching down from a canoe is reflected in dark, lily-covered water below, where the inverted reflection of two people and a glowing light shimmer among green leaves and yellow blooms. Kas's cover art plays beautifully with the boundary between surface and reflection, giving the wilderness setting an almost dreamlike, unsettling quality. "Podróżnicy: Athabaska" promises an atmospheric adventure in the wild, and this Polish edition is a fine introduction to the series.
