Muriel works in a store while her aunt, who lives far away, pays for her education. Muriel catches the eye of a young Spaniard in charge of the fur department who wants to ask her out, but his ill mother asks him to look after her niece after she dies. Unable to get Carlos out of her mind, Muriel takes a different job. When his mother dies, Carlos finally reads the letter his mother had mentioned and discovers that the niece she was referring to was actually Muriel.
