“Room with a View”

"Room with a View" is a quietly unsettling short story from 1968’s Playboy #4, written and illustrated entirely by Claude Smith. The tale follows a man drawn in by the sight of a woman getting dressed across the way, only to discover the apartment he’s just leased belongs to his landlord—whose sudden act of pulling down the blinds leaves everything in shadow. The cover by Claude Smith captures the story’s eerie intimacy, all in a 75-cent comic from the late '60s.
