Diana is in love with her neighbor and childhood friend, but Dan only has eyes for a night club singer who makes it clear that his salary as a bank security agent gives him no chance. Dan's pursuit of a bank robber results in him saving the money from a burning car. He rationalizes that the money would have burned up if not for him and uses the money to impress the singer. She double-crosses him and the police catch them all. Dan is sent to prison and Diana promises to wait for him.
