Janet loved Rex, her fiance, but he couldn't keep his eyes off other girls. She caught Rex and Freda sneaking off one night near the old quarry and confronted them. When Rex had second thoughts about leaving Janet, Freda attacked her. Defending herself, Janet pushed back and Freda fell into the gorge. At the thought of having killed Freda, Janet ran off and soon collapsed. Matt found her and when she recovered, she didn't remember what happened that night. She eventually married Matt and was content being a farmer's wife until Rex returned to try to blackmail her.
