Gay is engaged to Tom, the son of a local landowner and a good man who loves her deeply. So she doesn't understand why she isn't happy. When a film company arrives to shoot scenes in their village, Gay meets Dick, a young producer/director, while walking in the woods. Gay feels conflicted about her feelings for him until a fire on the set endangers his life. Tom saves Dick's life, but it is clear that it is Dick she loves, not Tom.
