Joan receives a letter from an insurance company asking her to come to Toronto to verify the policy on the life of her deceased fiancé. On arriving, she finds he is presumed drowned in a swimming accident. Frank, who introduces himself as an old friend of Sam's, tries to comfort her. But when she returns to New York, she discovers Sam is alive and is attempting to cheat the insurance company for the one hundred thousand dollar policy.
