The Lewis and Clark Expedition chronicles their historic journey of exploration across uncharted western territories. After establishing Fort Mandan as a winter base, Lewis and Clark obtain horses from the Shoshone Indians and prepare to cross the mountains before winter arrives. The expedition encounters the Shoshone tribe, who initially fear they may be enemies but ultimately agree to assist the explorers. On September 23, 1806, after more than two years of travel covering over 8,000 miles, the expedition successfully returns to St. Louis to celebration and acclaim.
