In Milan, dancer Linda auditions for producer David, who makes a pass at her. Linda moves in with Tina, next door to composer Robert who is working with poor busker Lauretta on a new show. In a café owned by Tina’s boyfriend Dick, the group plan to stage Robert’s musical, but lack money. Tina marries rich admirer Tony to fund the show, with David as producer. Hurt by Tina, Dick sells his diner to become a boxer. Lauretta’s gangster brother Carlo shoots Tony, leaving Tina single again and the show without funding. Dick’ boxing prize money enables the show to launch to acclaim.
