About this Collection

This collection presents the complete adaptation of Harlan Ellison's original screenplay for 'Phoenix Without Ashes,' the unaired pilot for the 1970s TV series 'The Starlost.' Illustrated by Alan Robinson, the story follows a young man in a domed agricultural community who discovers that his world is actually a generation starship on a doomed course. IDW's 2011 edition compiles the full comic series, offering a faithful visual rendition of Ellison's dystopian sci-fi vision.

In Phoenix Without Ashes #nn (2011), written by Harlan Ellison and illustrated by Alan Robinson, a young man named Devon challenges the rigid beliefs of his isolated community, Cypress Corners, after being deemed genetically unsuitable for love by the elders’ mysterious computer. When his defiance leads to exile, Devon uncovers a hidden tunnel beneath the church—and a chilling truth about the system that controls his fate. The cover by John K. Snyder III captures the eerie stillness of a world where faith and technology collide.
