“A Clothes Call”

In "A Clothes Call," Mighty Mouse finds himself falsely accused by Oil Can Harry, who stages a series of pranks and pins the blame on the hero using a laughably bad inflatable balloon replica. With the citizens of Terrytown swinging wildly between cheers and calls for his hanging, it's up to Pearl Pureheart to rally support and prove Mighty Mouse's innocence—before the mob's mood shifts again. Art by Jim Tyer, this 1951 adventure captures the zany energy of the era in a 10-cent comic that's as sharp in humor as it is in its portrayal of public perception.

Oil Can Harry frames Mighty Mouse for a series of pranks and misdeeds against the citizens of Terrytown, proving his "guilt" to the exceedingly fickle crowd (that alternately cheers him or wants him hanged with incredibly rapid shifts of mood) using a poorly fashioned Mighty Mouse inflatable balloon. Can Pearl Pureheart turn (and keep) the tide of public opinion firmly "for" our hero?
