After attempting a rescue, Patches encounters a suspicious old man in the woods, and the story culminates with the discovery that someone has set a trap in the area, forcing Patches to find a way to help the injured animal and outwit the mysterious figure.
When the Secret Seven gather to choose a mascot, tensions rise between the members over whether to pick Scraps, Patches’ scrappy little dog, or King, Ambrose’s show-dog. As the group debates, a sudden fire at Mrs. Brown’s house — spotted by Scraps’ keen instincts — leads to a heroic rescue, proving his courage and earning him the title of official mascot.
Patches is named the star player for the Redwood Wrens’ biggest game, but his rival Blacky plots to steal his spot by sending a false message to keep him away. When Patches returns just in time, he helps turn the tide in a tense, last-minute showdown that tests loyalty and teamwork.
Patches and the Secret Seven investigate the supposedly haunted house on End Street, hoping to prove it’s not haunted so they can use it as their new clubhouse. With Gram’s warnings and the caretaker’s eerie stories swirling in their minds, the group ventures inside on a stormy night, only to be terrified by strange noises and a cloaked figure—until the truth behind the haunting is revealed.
Sandy and Gloria Payne both believe they’re going to the big party with Patches, leading to a mix-up when Patches is caught between promises. As the night unfolds, a surprise invitation from a local boy adds another twist to the already tangled plans.
When the Secret Seven venture into a remote mountain trail, their friend Patches stays behind to search for his missing dog, Scraps, who stumbles into a hidden trap set by a reclusive hermit. As Patches tries to rescue his dog, he discovers the hermit is a lonely man who’s lived in isolation for years, and in exchange for help getting back to town, the hermit offers to guide him—on the condition Patches never reveals his existence.
Patches listens as his grandmother recounts the tale of a young man named David Marks and a hidden girl named Mary, who survive a storm at sea after being stranded on a remote island. As they endure the tempest and drift toward an unknown shore, a native boy becomes their unlikely ally, helping them signal for rescue and forging a bond that changes their lives.
