Paraíso Perdido #[nn]
Pablo Auladell's adaptation of John Milton's Paraíso Perdido arrives in a stunning package from DarkSide Books, its cover framing two nude human figures in a lush garden setting — unmistakably Adam and Eve — enclosed within ornate bronze-toned carvings that erupt with a roaring demonic face at the top, its grotesque grandeur framing the whole scene like the gates of something forbidden. The interplay between that verdant, dreamlike garden and the oppressive, almost architectural evil surrounding it captures the tension at the heart of Milton's epic with real visual intelligence. Published in 2018, this Brazilian edition feels like a proper art object as much as a book.
