The main story features the outlaw Fatman confronting a Federal Marshal who has tracked him down. After a tense standoff, the marshal is subdued and the story follows Fatman's accomplice Pearly, an aging ex-convict released after serving ten years of a twenty-year sentence at Deer Lodge Penitentiary. When Joe, another gang member, discovers Pearly has been released, he arranges to meet him outside, but Fatman and his men plan to intercept Pearly to prevent him from being captured. The narrative culminates in a confrontation between the outlaws and lawmen, with Fatman attempting to secure water and supplies at a remote ranch while keeping the captured marshal imprisoned in a corral.
