“The Deception”

The concluding chapter of DC's eight-issue miniseries "The Legend of the Man Called Hood" arrives with a cover that's genuinely striking: a lone archer rendered in pure silhouette draws his bow against a warm dusk sky, while a ghostly, larger-than-life hooded face looms behind him like legend made visible. Luke McDonnell's cover art plays beautifully with scale and atmosphere, pairing bare winter trees with that luminous purple-and-gold twilight to give the whole image a mythic, elegiac weight. Writer Michael Jan Friedman and artist McDonnell close out their Robin Hood retelling with "The Deception" — and if this moody final cover is any indication, the series ends on a note that takes its outlaw hero seriously.
