Outcast by Kirkman & Azaceta #1
Robert Kirkman and Paul Azaceta launched something genuinely unsettling with this 2014 Image series opener, subtitled "A Darkness Surrounds Him." The cover — rendered by Azaceta in Elizabeth Breitweiser's smoldering oranges and deep shadows — shows a battered, blood-streaked man at the center of a swirling darkness alive with watching eyes, his own gaze haunted and glowing with something not quite human. It's a striking, atmospheric image that sets the tone for a horror series clearly built on dread, isolation, and whatever force has marked this man as an outcast.
