Ann is a successful novelist and this affects her marriage to Bill, a “junior accountant.” They argue, he slaps her, and Ann decides to divorce him. She moves to the White Horse Inn to work on her new novel. Ann falls in love with fisherman Johnny; learning Bill has already gotten a Mexican divorce, Ann decides to marry Johnny. However, she learns Johnny already has a girlfriend, and was just using her. Ann vows to change her life and perhaps win back Bill.
