About this Collection

A hardcover original graphic novel from DC's Vertigo imprint, Orbiter tells the story of the space shuttle Venture, which vanishes without a trace during a mission, only to mysteriously return ten years later—landing at a remote airfield with its hull transformed and its lone pilot changed in inexplicable ways. Written by Warren Ellis and illustrated by Colleen Doran, this standalone science fiction tale explores themes of exploration, obsession, and the unknown.

In "Orbiter," writer Warren Ellis and artist Colleen Doran deliver a haunting, grounded sci-fi mystery: the Space Shuttle Venture returns to Earth a decade after vanishing, its sole survivor John Cost the only living link to its lost crew. As an investigative team probes the shuttle’s bizarre return, they uncover a strange, organic skin encasing the vessel—hinting at a secret that could redefine humanity’s reach into space. Colleen Doran’s evocative interior art and cover, rendered in her signature style, anchor the story’s eerie, intimate tone.
