Onmenselijk #[nn]

A striking cover by Thibaud De Rochebrune sets the tone for this 2021 Dutch-language album from Daedalus, written by Denis Bajram and Valérie Mangin. On a sun-bleached beach, a suited figure in a space or diving suit crouches at the water's edge, tentacle-like forms writhing beneath them, while a luminous golden figure stands at the center of a vast, silent crowd of gaunt, weathered people stretching back toward the surf. The contrast between the lone armored newcomer and that immense, watchful gathering promises a story where the boundary between the human and something altogether different is very much in question — exactly what the title Onmenselijk ("Inhuman") suggests.
