About this Collection

This volume collects the third Ompa-pa adventure, originally serialized in Pilote, in which the strong but simple-minded Gaulish warrior and his cunning friend Cromlec find themselves in a series of comedic misadventures that culminate in Ompa-pa unexpectedly becoming a local hero. Written by René Goscinny and illustrated by Albert Uderzo, this edition presents the story in English for the first time, translated by Anthea Bell and Derek Hockridge.

Ompa-Pa #2 (1977) delivers a rollicking tale of tribal tensions and unlikely heroism, with René Goscinny and Albert Uderzo crafting a story where diplomacy and courage collide. When the Flatfoot and Sockitoomee tribes clash, Ompa-Pa must sneak into enemy territory to rescue his captured brother, Two Scalp, leading to a chaotic three-way battle that ends in a single combat showdown—won effortlessly by Ompa-Pa. The victory brings peace, and Fort Issimo celebrates as the tribes lay down their arms. Cover by Albert Uderzo captures the comic’s bold, expressive style.

As the Flatfoot and Sockitoomee tribes go to war, the commander of Fort Issimo sends Sprout (Two Scalp) to negotiate an alliance with the Flatfoot. When the Sockitoomee capture Two Scalp, Ompa-Pa creeps into their village to rescue his white brother. A three-way battle between both tribes and the soldiers causes so much confusion that it is decided to settle the conflict in single combat, which Ompa-Pa easily wins. The Flatfoot demand only peace as the prize of victory, and Fort Issimo rings with the sounds of celebration.
