Nyoka the Jungle Girl #77

Nyoka and Hartley flee a ghostly elephant stampede in the jungle graveyard, only to be cornered by a band of superstitious head-hunters who have wounded Hartley. As Nyoka struggles to protect him, she devises a desperate plan to survive by using the tribesmen’s own beliefs against them.

Nyoka encounters Trader Tom, who sells invisible hair nets with a comically confident claim of their invisibility—despite having run out of them for weeks. Later, she meets the eager explorer Egbert, who insists on joining her hunting trip to Africa after completing a correspondence course in lion taming, prompting a skeptical but amused response.

Nyoka and Hartley are captured by the Mori tribe, who believe Hartley is a god after surviving a poisoned spear, thanks to a mysterious illness. As the tribe prepares to burn the jungle at Hartley’s command, Nyoka secretly administers penicillin to restore his mind—only to face a new crisis when Hartley, still delusional, orders the tribe to steal ivory from the cursed Elephant Graveyard.

Nyoka intervenes when a group of children can't afford circus tickets, promising to get them in—only to find Ballyhoo Barney, the ticket seller, counting them as they pass without payment. As the boys slip in unnoticed, Nyoka confronts Barney, who claims he’s been through a series of terrible illnesses—only to reveal it was a spelling test all along.

Nyoka races against time to raise a hundred thousand dollars in ransom for her father and fiancé, captured by the villain Japol, by attempting to capture the legendary tiger Satu—whose bounty offers her a chance to fund the rescue. With the help of the Maharajah and his elephants, she devises a daring plan to lure Satu using a live buffalo as bait, knowing she must ring the tiger before the deadline.
